Shropshire Doctors Cooperative Ltd (Shropdoc) is a not-for-profit company established in 1996. It provides a range of services to 600,000 patients throughout the whole of Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Powys and deals with over 200,000 calls and over 50,000 patients per year. The range of services provided by Shropdoc means they are operational, in various forms, 24/7 365 days a year.
The core of their services remain as the GP Out of Hours service. This service is provided to the general population as well as prisons and MOD bases. All of their primary Care Centres are based within DGHs or community hospitals and they provide support to 8 MIUs and in-patients at 14 community hospitals. All of their centres have a fully equipped 4x4 car for home visits.
Other services include dental call handling and triage, Physiotherapy triage, Community nurses, Booking Information Bureau providing Access booking and choice, Care Coordination Centre (alternatives to GP hospital admission).
Shropdoc covers an area of several thousand square miles, ranging from urban, to rural, to extreme rurality with poor roads and transport infrastructure. The population covered has areas of social deprivation.
